How are people transformed through their relationship with others?
In the short story, "Just Lather, That's all" we notice how one person can be changed by someone else over the span of just minutes. When the Sergeant first walks onto the barber shop, apparently unaware of the barber's secret identity, the barber realizes that this is his chance. His chance to finally kill the Sergeant because of his rebel backround. As the barber progresses thorugh the shaving of the Sergeant's beard, he starts to have second thoughts. Although he would be a hero amond rebels, what does that mean? Also, his life would be turned upside down, he would have to leave town and start a new life, and his reputation as the best barber in town would be gone as well. Finally, by the end of the shave, even after being inches form killing the Sergeant he decides against it in his better judgement. We see through these short moments how the barber went from a rebel, looking for revenge, to a totally different person once he was actually confronted my the opportunity. Also, the barber probably will have a new outlook on life after seeing how difficult it is to atually kill someone and what the Sergeant goes through everyday.
