Brother Dear Response
How are people transformed through their relationships with others?
In the short story, Brother Dear, Sharlene changed very much from the start of the short story until the end. At the start of the short story, Sharlenes relationship with her brother is rocky and her father and her do not agree on her future. Much like in my family, my sister get along fine, but me and my parents have trouble agreeing on what i should do with my future. Towards the middle of the story, Sharlene is even more torn on her future decisions because she is seeing by what Greg is doing that following her fathers orders might be the better route for the future. At the very end of the story, Sharlene is confronted by Greg and he sheds new light on her life. She finally realizes that everyone has their own reasons for everything they do and that the decision for her future should be theirs and theirs alone. So we can see from the start of the story she was timid and who to follow, but at the end she realizes she should do neither, and choose herself.

Short Story Response
How are people transformed through their relationship with others?
In the short story, "Just Lather, That's all" we notice how one person can be changed by someone else over the span of just minutes. When the Sergeant first walks onto the barber shop, apparently unaware of the barber's secret identity, the barber realizes that this is his chance. His chance to finally kill the Sergeant because of his rebel backround. As the barber progresses thorugh the shaving of the Sergeant's beard, he starts to have second thoughts. Although he would be a hero amond rebels, what does that mean? Also, his life would be turned upside down, he would have to leave town and start a new life, and his reputation as the best barber in town would be gone as well. Finally, by the end of the shave, even after being inches form killing the Sergeant he decides against it in his better judgement. We see through these short moments how the barber went from a rebel, looking for revenge, to a totally different person once he was actually confronted my the opportunity. Also, the barber probably will have a new outlook on life after seeing how difficult it is to atually kill someone and what the Sergeant goes through everyday.

Image Response
I think that this image represents the conflict in the short story Brother Dear in many ways. First of all, the child in the middle represents Greg's sister, torn between sides of university or a free spirit. It also shows the difference in opinions between the man on the right and the woman on the left, much like that of the mother and father in their household.
